1.Assam approves 10% quota for economically weaker sections of general class
The Assam Cabinet has approved 10% quota for the economically weaker sections of the general category in government jobs and education.The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal here on Monday night also approved the guidelines for disbursement of ₹5,000 each to five lakh farmers of the state under the Mukhya Mantri Krishi Sa Sajuli Yozana for purchase of farm tools and implements.The Cabinet also approved a loan amount of ₹95 crore from NABARD.
2.Dell India launches PolicyHack for teachers in India
Dell India has partnered with the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) as well as Ignus to launch PolicyHack for teachers and school representatives.The initiative allows the teaching fraternity to come up with solutions for problems faced by teachers inside and outside the classroom. It will also help create a platform for teachers and school representatives to interact with each other, according to a press statement.
3.Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates and Lays Foundation Stone of 39 National Highways Projects in Andhra Pradesh
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 39 National Highways Projects in Andhra Pradesh. These include construction of eleven ROBs under Setu Bhartam programme.
4.India Steel 2019 Exhibition and Conference to begin in Mumbai
India Steel 2019 Exhibition and Conference will begin in Mumbai today. The three-day event organised by Ministry of Steel will help chart out the future growth path of the steel industry. The event will provides an opportunity for all the stakeholders to deliberate and identify ways to contribute towards building a robust roadmap for the further growth of the steel sector.
5.India among the most trusted nations globally: Report
India is among the most trusted nations globally when it comes to government, business, NGOs and media.
The 2019 Edelman Trust Barometer report, which was released today, ahead of the World Economic Forum meet in Davos, noted that the Global Trust Index witnessed a marginal increase of 3 points to 52.China topped the Trust Index among both the informed public and the general population segments. India was at the second place in the informed public category and third place in the general population category.

6.Nepal bank announces ban of Indian notes above Rs 100
Nepal’s central bank has announced the ban of Indian currency notes with denominations above Rs 100,a move that could affect Indian tourists visiting the Himalayan nation where Indian currency is widely used.Nepal’s cabinet in December had decided to ban the use of these currency notes.
7.Germany bans Iranian airline from its airspace
Germany has banned Iran’s Mahan Air from landing in the country with immediate effect, citing security concerns and the airline’s involvement in Syria.Mahan Air is on a United States sanctions list and Washington has long urged allies to ban the airline from their territory.
8.Bharat Ratna CNR Rao chosen for first Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials
Eminent Indian scientist CNR Rao, was chosen for the first Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials Research by the Centre for Advanced Materials of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).The prize includes a plaque and cash prize of USD 100,000.
