1.India’s 1st Geographical Indication Store opened in Goa
Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated India’s 1st Geographical Indication (GI) Store at Goa International Airport in Dabolim.With an exclusive store for GI tagged products at the Goa airport, the government looks to build a premium label for indigenous ware.Products from the self-help groups, artisans and farmers’ produce will be also displayed on the airport at a concessional rate.
2.Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Has Announced Jiban Sampark Project in Partnership With UNICEF
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced “Jiban Sampark” project in partnership with UNICEF India to generate awareness about the development and welfare initiatives of state government among the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groupsof the state.
3.Home Minister N.Chinarajappa inaugurated a centralized call centre
Home Minister N.Chinarajappa inaugurated a centralized call centre in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.The call Centre is sponsored by Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas.He also launched a website (www.saukaryam.in) that were developed as part of a pilot project for the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) by Malireddi Charitable Trust.
4.Prakash Javadekar to inaugurate New Campus for National Museum Institute at Noida
Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the new Campus of the National Museum Institute at Noida.
Culture Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma was also present on the occasion. The Institute has been working from the first floor of the National Museum, Janpath, New Delhi.
5.Uttarakhand’s First Tulip Garden In Pithoragarh
Uttarakhand’s first tulip garden will come up over 50 hectares of forest land in Pithoragarh district at a cost of Rs 50 crore.To be developed by the ONGC, under its corporate social responsibility programme in over 50 hectares of forest land near Chandak hill top, the proposed tulip garden will be the country’s second after the one located in Srinagar (J&K)
6.Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh appointed Regional Director WHO South-East Asia for second term
Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh has been appointed Regional Director for World Health Organization South-East Asia, for a second five-year term. The WHO Executive Board has unanimously endorsed Dr Khetrapal Singh, who was earlier also unanimously nominated by 11 Member countries of the Region for another five years.
7.Dubai airport retains its position as world’s busiest airport in 2018
Dubai International Airport has retained its position as the world’s busiest airport for the fifth consecutive year in a row in 2018 with Indian travellers emerging as the largest source of traffic for the airport which registered a record footfall of over 89 million.
8.India bags the Award of Excellence for ‘Best in Show’ at New York Times Travel Show 2019
India received the Award of Excellence for ‘Best in Show’ at the recently concluded New York Times Travel Show 2019. The New York Times Travel Show 2019 is the largest travel show in North America that was held during January 25-27, 2019 in New York, USA. Yogendra Tripathi, Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism received the Award of Excellence.
9.Kartik Sharma wins New South Wales men’s Amateur Golf
India’s Kartik Sharma won the New South Wales men’s Amateur Golf Championship in Australia.Kartik notched up a magnificent win over Australia’s Nathan Barberie in the scheduled 36-hole final to emerge as champion.Kartik had also won the Indian golf union western India amateur golf championship 2018.
10.Former New Zealand bowler Ewen Chatfield retires from cricket
New Zealand pacer Ewen Chatfield, famously known as the Naenae Express, finally ran “out of steam” as he has announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 68. The veteran bowler played his last match for his Wellington Club Naenae Old Boys.
