1.PM Modi inaugurates National Salt Satyagraha Memorial at Dandi
PM Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial at Dandi in Gujarat on Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary.The memorial has statues of Mahatma Gandhi and 80 Satyagrahis who had marched with him during the historic Dandi Salt March. It also has 24-narrative murals depicting various events and stories from the historic 1930 Salt March.
2.Alphons inaugurates First Swadesh Darshan project in Sikkim
K.J. Alphons, Union Minister for Tourism has inaugurated the first project under the Swadesh Darshan Project of the Union Ministry of Tourism at the Zero Point, Gangtok, Sikkim.Swadesh Darshan Scheme is one of the flagship scheme of Ministry of tourism for development of thematic circuits in the country in a planned manner.
3.India signs agreement with OECD for participation in PISA 2021
The Union Human Resources Development Ministry has signed an agreement with Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for India’s Participation in Programme for International Student Assessment- PISA 2021.The students will be selected by PISA through random sampling. The schools run by KVS ,NVS and schools in the UT of Chandigarh would be participating.
4.India Ranks 54th In ‘Bloomberg Innovation Index 2019’ Of 60 Economies
India has been ranked in Bloomberg’s 2019 list of most innovative countries in the world – 2019 Bloomberg Innovation Index – for the first time ever.India has grabbed the 54th spot with a score of 47.93 out of 100 in the Innovation Index of 60 economies. South Korea has topped the Index for the sixth time in a row with a total score of 87.38, followed by Germany and Finland.
5.Telangana government to monitor the forest cover using NRSAs data
Accelerating its efforts to save forest lands from encroachments, the Telangana Government has decided to utilise satellite imagery for continuously monitoring the forest cover.The State has accordingly roped in the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) for providing high-resolution satellite images to enable it to keep a tab on encroachments, if any, in the forest areas.
6.Saab, AAI sign MoU over air traffic management solutions
Swedish aerospace and defence company Saab has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to explore air traffic management (ATM) solutions for airports operating under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN.
7.India-South Africa Business Forum
India-South Africa Business Forum was organised jointly by Indian Industry Chambers CII, FICCI and Assocham. India had risen to 77th place in the World Bank’s latest Ease of Doing Business rankings and is currently among the most attractive destinations for foreign direct investment (FDI) according to UNCTAD.
8.Singapore most liveable for Asian expats: Survey
Singapore has been rated as the most liveable location for Asian expatriates in 2019 for the 14th consecutive year, according to a survey by ECA International. Hong Kong dropped 12 places to become the 41st liveable city for Asian expatriates. Other cities in Asian countries like Malaysia and Thailand have also seen higher ratings largely due to infrastructure improvement.
9.73-year-old Frenchman wins solo round-the-world sailing race
French sailor Jean-Luc Van Den Heede has won the round-the-world yacht race after212 days alone at sea without modern instruments. The 73-year-old, who completed his sixth circumnavigation of the globe, became the oldest to complete the 30,000-mile Golden Globe race. Of the 19 sailors who started out in July 2018, only 5 were still in the race.
